Fiber: Inulin (Raftiline® GR)

  • Each serving provides 3.5 g of Inulin. A soluble fiber and acting as prebiotic helps to build good intestinal environment for friendly bacteria.
  • Good for gut flora
         Health Benefits of Bifidobacteria
    • Improvement of the digestive and intestinal functions , encouraged a better protection against gastrointestinal disturbances. (16, 17, 18, 19 & 20)
    • Re-balancing of the faecal flora also guarantees a normal uraemia, and a low ammonia concentration in the intestinal content. (21, 22 & 23)
    • A lower pH prevents the growth of harmful bacteria . Bifidobacteria ferment non-digestible carbohydrates into lactate and acetate, which lowers the pH of the intestinal medium. As a result the absorption of protonated amines is reduced and the proliferation of other harmful bacteria is reduced or even inhibited. (19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 & 28)
    • Bifidobacteria may reduce the risk of colon cancer . It helped to inhibit the formation of aberrant crypt foci (AFC) which are preneoplastic lesions increasing the risk for future development of adenomas and carcinomas. (29, 30 & 31)
    • Bifidobacteria helps to activate the immune system . It produces substances that are able to activate the immune system of the host. This allows a better defence against microflora infections. (32 & 33) and against tumorigenesis. (34, 35 & 36)
    • Bifidobacteria helps to synthesize certain vitamins . Mainly those of the B-group, and of proteolytic enzymes which act, among others, on casein and lysozyme. (37, 38, 39 & 28)
    • Bifidobacteria reduces the production of putrefactive components . Bifidobacteria are characterized by a low production of ammonia, aliphatic amines and H2S, usual products of putrefaction. They also lower the production of nitrites which, with amines, are the substrates for the synthesis of nitrosamines, some of which are powerful carcinogens (40 & 41)
    • Bifidobacteria increases the absorption of minerals . Bifidobacteria induce a better resorption of some ions such as iron and calcium (42). Recently it has been demonstrated that the consumption of oligofructose increases calcium absorption in humans (43 & 44) . Whether this was due to the increased Bifidobacteria population still has to be demonstrated.
  • Prebiotic action of Inulin
    • A prebiotic was defined as a non-digestible food ingredient that beneficially affects the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon, thus improving host health.(45) This definition was further refined "A prebiotic effect is a food-induced increase in numbers and/or activity predominantly of bifidobacteria and lactic acid bacteria in the human intestine." (46)
    • A highly significant increase in Bifidobacteria was observed (Figure 1). This confirmed the in vitro observation that inulin modifies the composition of the intestinal flora. (45)
